A Novel Approach to Ablation Therapy

A series of illustrations for 2 research articles investigating a novel ablation approach using the Sphere-9 ablation catheter (Affera, Inc). The expandable, lattice-structured catheter is designed to deliver high power at a low current density to increase the therapeutic range of radiofrequency ablation.

Food Allergies Science Initiative

A series of illustrations created for the Food Allergies Science Initiative (FASI) at the Broad Institute, as part of their public awareness and funding campaigns.

The images provide an overview of the anatomical and cellular basis of food ‘quality control,’ involving detection by taste, smell, and specialized ‘nutrient-sensing’ and ‘toxin-sensing’ cells, joined with neural and immune pathway regulation.

Current FASI research focuses on unravelling this complex system, elucidating mechanisms of inflammatory and immune responses to particular foods, and making advances in diagnosis, prevention, and treatment.

Appendix L, CPT Pro 2019

Appendix L in the 2019 edition of the AMA (Current Procedural Terminology) CPT Professional codebook.

This extensive table and series of illustrations serve as a reference for the interventional radiology code section. Collectively, they display the hierarchy of vascular branching, with major arteries and veins (aorta, vena cava, pulmonary artery, or portal vein) as the starting point of catheterization.

A few of the 16 color-coded anatomical illustrations have been selected as examples.

CPT Professional

Images created for the AMA (Current Procedural Terminology) CPT Assistant Newsletter and the CPT Professional code book. Each image or set of images accompanies explanations of new or updated codes for reporting specific techniques and procedures. Topics range from general esophagectomy techniques, to differences in approach to minimally-invasive glaucoma surgery, to placement of a non-tunneling peripherally-inserted central catheter in a pediatric patient.
