Harris-Galante hip implants

A series of illustrations for The Harris Orthopaedic Laboratory @ The Mass General by William H. Harris, MD.

The figures depict examples of hip implant designs developed by John Charnley, MD, including approaches to: articular surface replacement, femoral head/neck replacement, wear durability, and stabilization/retention.

Additional illustrations show design changes by Dr Harris and his colleague Dr Jorge Galante, including approaches to improving and optimizing: fixation and integration for both cementless and cement femoral head/neck and cup, replaceable cup liners, and individual customization and standardized, interchangeable components.
