Cassio is a board-certified medical illustrator with more than 20 years of experience in the field of visual communication.
For nearly 14 years, Cassio was a medical illustrator at the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) in Chicago, a weekly peer-reviewed publication of clinical and basic medical research. He had the privilege of being the first full-time medical illustrator in its 117-year history.
Cassio maintains an avid interest combing fine art with ‘teaching’ illustrations, in large part because of his background in mural painting and traditional studio art—and he is always eager to entertain ideas for cross-discipline projects. Cassio has developed a refreshing complement to digital art tools, enabling him to achieve a signature, hand-crafted look to his work.
He received his MA in Medical and Biological Illustration from The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in 2000. He has been a member of the Association of Medical Illustrators since 1996, and has served on its Board of Governors.
His work has been exhibited nationally and internationally, and received recognition and awards.
